First we heard from the elder sibling about a buy back of his shares which were down about 35% last year.

Then we hear the younger one has just sold 26% stake from Reliance Cap’s Amc business to Nippon at a record 7% valuation of AUM for some 1400 odd crores…

Next up we hear today Reliance gets ready for 4G Triple play… !

A few days back one friend of mine who invests quite regularly in stocks and studies them too commented to me, they say voice call days are numbered. Its time for Data Calls. Now when Data calls will take full steam the person who will benefit the most is people who have a spread out optical fibre network and Reliance communication is probably the leader in this !

Yes, it suddenly is on the front pages ! It suddenly is on head lines… and the stock is moving… !!!

The Ghost who Eats shifted to Bharuch from Jamnagar in 1989, St. Xaviers, Jamnagar lost one of its budding Sprinters and that was the gain of Rungta Vidya Bhavan, Bharuch

The new school had one sprint queen, her nick name was P.T. Usha… She was the sprint queen of this school

It took Milkha Singh & P.T. Usha another 10 years time to realize that this was a match made already and the rest… well … as they say, is history 

Anyways this story is not about Milkha Singh and P T Usha, but its about their first descendant that came in 2004 …

It all happened yesterday…

he had a race at his school yesterday he told at 6.45 am whilst I was busy dressing him up

“The winners will run on sports day !” he announced

So when he came back from school, the former sprinter had to inquire about the race…

“So, what happened at the race ? Did you get selected ?”

“The race didn’t happen”

“Huh ?”

“They had done a race a few days back, they selected from it !”

“Oh, so were you selected ?”

“No”

he says without watching as he is busy washing his hands and getting ready for lunch

“Why ?”

“They selected only the first two.”

He said sitting on the table and reaching out for the glass of water…

( Have you ever come across a kid who doesnt have a problem of excessive water drinking while eating ?! :-/ )

“So what was your position ?”

“Third”

“Oh, close… never mind… btw who came first ?”

“Aayaan also came Third.”

“I didn’t ask about Aayaan, I asked who came first ?”

“Deepansh…mmm……Anshul…..mm…Krutarth….”

I couldn’t help interrupting…

“How can so many be 1st and how can Aayaan and you both be third ?”

“We ran in pairs of three and we both were the third “

“Huh”

“Yea”

I and wifey looked at each other in disbelief and then said together almost instantly together..

“Hriday, tune hamara naam mitti mein mila diya, we both were race champions in our school and YOU ?!”

The kid couldn’t take this embarrassment stop himself and blurted it out …

“They all did cheating how can we win ?”

“Its ok, Hriday, we are just kidding ! Don’t say they cheated just coz you weren’t first”

“Arrey Shu… You know they gave me and Aayaan very chutku mutku girls as our partners !!! They gave all the Hatti Gatti girls to others !! How can I win the race with such Chutku Mutku partner… only if they had given me a HATTI GATTI Girl PARNTER !!!!! ” :-O 

He said showing the height of the girl partner at his waist.. indicating very strongly that she was so short and thin, she couldn’t run fast…we later understood that it was a relay race where the girl was supposed to give a bottle of water as the baton to the boy and then race. He was so trying to forget the disappointment and that is exactly where his Sprinting Mom and Dad bruised his Ego !!! Sigh…. :-/

The descendant couldn’t care less as he went from Roti to Bhindi and butter milk with a weird whats got into you guys look as his Sprinting Parents couldn’t stop Giggling and repeating Hatti GATTI and Chutku Mutku !!!!!

What started as wifey complaining of “aankh phadakna” and jokes followed citing I am going to have it… it increased, we thought to ignore but within 24 hours it seemed like her face was crooked, we eventually rushed to our family doc and she insisted we go to a Physican and that she suspected Facial nerve paralysis, she assured us it had nothing to do with diabetes and it was viral and most importantly she repeated quite a few times looking at us gaping that it was fully recoverable !!!!

Almost all the doctor’s which I knew and our Physician all calmed our nerves down that it was totally recoverable, just requires a few steroids, anti-virals and multi vitamins with regular Physiotherapy. So began the ordeal, thankfully wifey started showing signs of improvement after 1 week and now after 6 odd weeks almost no one can spot her Palsy, although still 95% recovered she has now stopped Physiotherapy and medicines both !

About last week or so I thought since so many steroids and antivirals have gone in maybe in her christmas vacation she should do some detox diet of sorts, searching on the net was slightly boring and difficult and I posted my request on FB and while Tara gave me a rather interesting suggestion, I bailed out… but hey our blogsphere is kind and I managed to get hold of our veri own Desi cook Sangeeta to plan a detox that was totally customised as per our Dosha !!!

I didn’t know Sangeeta was so much into the food stuff, it became clear that cooking being an interest and a hobby apart, she is quite good and knows a lot about food and when I say a lot I mean A LOT !

Actually I didn’t really want to go on a Detox diet as my taste buds are way too greedy, however, it was important I would do it to encourage wifey along the way and get all the med’s flushed out. Sangeetha was kind enough to not just make a diet plan to detox, she also took the pain to ask everyday what were our likes dislikes, what were the veggies, grains we could manage what we couldnt and whats more she even took the pain to bow to my WHIMS !!!

Sangeeta actually does specialize and pursues making Personalized Diet Plans for all those who you want a nice workable and personalised diet plan for themselves with weight loss targets or for diabetes friendly lifestyle or for a heart friendly plate So if you are looking for some discipline in your life and at the same time dont want to disappoint your taste buds just ping her !!!!

The best part of the diet plan was that it was filled with food that was delicious, infact most things for us were new and since I and wifey love experimenting and trying new things we loved it !!! Some of the dishes like Greenbeans stir fried and fruit chaat’s  were favourites for everyone else at home who weren’t even on the Detox Plan !

Not only the guts were scrubbed and flushed they were even soothed and then made to top class ! By the end of the week we both felt lighter, better, cleaner and I even thought my skin was improving !!!! Lol I actually felt I was turning a bit GORA !!!! I am colour obsessed !!!! Whilst our goal was not at all to lose weight, I actually I just measured my weight today that I am 1.5 kgs lighter ! The best part of the diet was at no point was I hungry, infact at times it would seem like I am full do I really have to eat that !!!!

and now that I have totally Detoxed !!!! its time to Dive into a Chocolate icing !!!! I know… I can see Sangeeta #FACEPALM !!!! but well…. The ghost can’t stop eating all and sundry !!!!

Tomorrow at 5.00 am(IST) its time to begin the games…

Over my growing up years it has always been the most exciting place to play and watch cricket, Australia. The country with hard sun-baked pitches, huge playing grounds, sea-gulls, flies, traditions, hats, beers and the crowds that were tough to win over. Also the fact that after I took to cricket around 1985-86 and the growth of the Australian aura coincided made me an even bigger fanatic of the tour of Australia. Ever since 1998 when Sachin after being made a bunny in the first innings by Warne in Chennai churned up that brilliant 155* the battles between these two teams have been most engrossing and mouth watering. The only abberations could be the 1999 tour of India where they were white-washed and subsequently M S Dhoni paying the favour back on Australia’s last tour of India where they beat them 2-0 in a series of 4.

Those two series apart the 2001 series was one of the best ever seen by me, if not the best ever played, where the world champion team was brought down to ground by rookies. Waugh’s Australians were on a record streak of consecutive Test victories they had won 15 consecutive tests and came to India to Mumbai. Waugh billed it as the Final Frontier for this all conquering team and India had a new captain and were without Anil Kumble. It seemed the Final Frontier was going to fall. Whilst India had a slender chance when Australia were 99/5 in their first innings in Mumbai the game changed after Gilly and Haydos decided to simply sweep the Indian off-spinner, apparently turning the ball square, to individual hundreds. The Aussies thereafter romped to victory after 3 days. I was in Wankhede to see that pasting we got.

Surely, after 16 consecutive test wins it was only upto Steve Waguh’s men to turn up at Kolkata and victory would be theirs. India were following on with a deficit of 274 runs and it was all but over. The biggest optimist of Indian cricket could not have fathomed what was to come. Two men batted as if they were possessed, the best bowling line up of my era had gone wicketless a full day, a Hyderabadi artist would collar the world’s best leg spinner and a defiant Banglorian would not cave in. They scored and scored and scored, the bowlers went from grumpy to red hot angry to eventually wow at the contest and applaud what they had just witnessed. Herculean efforts was what it took to stop Mcgrath and Warne and deny them a wicket one whole day. The last day a young brash captain inspired his equally brash off spinner and they decimated the World Champion batting line-up in little over 2 sessions. The visions of that Test Match and the mad crowd of Eden Gardens is stuff of Legends.

India took the final Test in Chennai and it was 2-1.

Indian cricket turned a new chapter in their history, for me Indian cricket has two era’s one before this series and one after this series.

The 2003-04 series which was seen as a chance to avenge the rude shock in 2001 by the world Champions. Quite contrary to the talks of Chin Music it turned out to be one of India’s best batting display down under. The Australian’s were wowed by the batting line-up and they genuinely even admitted that at times they got a feeling the Indian batsman were meditating!!!  India failed to seize the initiative in Sydney where they didn’t enforce the follow-on in the last Test after being 1-1. Winning in Australia still eluded India.

Australia finally won a Test series in India with a stand in captain, India was robbed of their chance in Chennai by rain and the series went 2-1 to Australia.

The following tour of India to Australia under Anil Kumble in 2007-08, was most troublesome and the Aussie captain was lambasted for his win at all costs attitude. Anil Kumble’s remark of only one team was playing in the spirit of the game after Sydney rankled the Aussie media and public and they all went after their team, after being 2-0 down India put on a steely performance that mirrored the image of their captain and they won a famous victory. Once again Australia had won 16 consecutive test matches and were poised to win their 17th in their favourite hunting ground where astonishingly India stopped them and although India couldn’t push victory in Adelaide the 2-1 series ensured India’s pride was restored and Australians were left with a victory 2-1 but a bitter taste in their mouth.

Then began the Aussie fall and India’s rise and India blanked them 2-0 in a 4 test series. This series was slightly one sided with India going to become the best team in Test Cricket atleast in terms of ranking.

Now in 2011 on Boxing Day these two teams take will be in combat once again on the biggest stage of all at the MCG. This time though both teams don’t seem confident, which is new for the Australians, especially in Australia. Plagued by injuries and form loss they converge on the most awaited Test Series of the year. Its this series that will make some careers where as some will bid good bye to their legendary careers.

I can’t wait for tomorrow to see Sehwag take strike and Pattinson bowl to him with wind behind his back. Its show time… let the games begin !!!!! No I am too superstitious to make any predictions. **touchwood**

Coming back to the discussion, after I heard all sorts of things about The Dirty Picture and after I sighed enough telling I am yet to watch, someone mentioned Don-II is coming ! Immediately another friend commented, “Hum Bhil (read SRK) Logo ke picture nahi dekhte” It is pretty usual in Gujarat to consider Bhil as downcast people although wrong but thats not an issue this post is going to discuss.

Its quite amazing that SRK always evokes extreme reactions ain’t it ? I see people who just love love and love him like IHM, Solilo and then there are some like my cousin who wont hear a word against him and if I do that she wont speak to me for a year or pick my calls ! I myself cannot hate him enough. I don’t even have a reason to hate him, I used to be a fan till I saw Baazigar and Anjaam !! Dunno what happened and I hate him ever since. I must though put my hand up and say that in Chak De and Swadesh this guy has acted and proved that he actually can act quite well but time and again he will do the run of the mill and make you cry and fill you with emotions, an easy thing to do in my opinion. The Yash Chopra Karan Johar are so not my type of movies !

I regret not watching Chak De and Swadesh in the movie hall, sometimes I so wish SRK hadn’t done these movies and I would have seen the movies in the Hall. No, me and Mrs. both never watch his movies, havent even watched DDLJ or KKHH in halls, infact I have not seen them full on TV either !  Had he not acted in Chak De and Swadesh I could justify my hating him and saying to all he can’t act. The fact is he can and can do it quite well and yet I continue to hate him whether he says he will dance in weddings for money (which should entirely be his own prerogative ) or when he supports Pakistani player bidding in the media and doesn’t bid for any of them himself. I have always found reasons to hate him. I was heart broken to know Ganguly was going to play for KKR in the first edition of the IPL !!!! My most favourite cricketer playing for the guy I hated the most !!!!!! It was a relation so destined to be broken The fact that the John Buchanan’s multiple captain theory and the controversies surrounding SRK and Sourav didn’t help make the matters any better. For the first time in my life, I would wish a team with Sourav would lose and lose badly. You may want to discount these feelings like those of a lil kid but that is what I felt !!!

SRK has an amazing Love Hate relationship with his fans, very rarely I find neutrals, there are people who rave him and love him and there are those who cant hate him enough !

Very similar to SRK is one vegetable, The Brinjal !

Interestingly, there are quite a few similarities between Shahrukh and the Brinjal than you would imagine. The Brinjal is how I call it, that is how I learnt in school and no its not an egglant *period* ! Eggs are laid they don’t grow plus this is my blog ! Yes ! Adamant !

Now like we all are told that SRK is a good actor, so are we told Brinjal is a good vegetable with lots of Iron, atleast that is what I always heard when growing up from my Mom ! But hey, like SRK no where on Wiki is it mentioned that Brinjal gives us Iron ! Please help me here Suranga if you can ! After the Iron puzzle is solved … the other point to be noted is SRK can be addictive as some fans would admit, similarly the brinjal, The fruit is botanically classified as a berry, and contains numerous small, soft seeds, which are edible, but have a bitter taste because they contain nicotinoid alkaloids; this is unsurprising as it is a close relative of tobacco. Eggplant is richer in nicotine than any other edible plant, with a concentration of 100 ng/g (or 0.01 mg/100g). However, the amount of nicotine from eggplant or any other food is negligible compared to passive smoking.[11] On average, 20 lbs (9 kg) of eggplant contains about the same amount of nicotine as a cigarette. Again its Wiki that speaketh and not the mortal me ! I am sure SRK would also do well to eat the Brinjals and cut down on the Cigarettes

Then again, as a kid I used to hate the vegetable Brinjal and we brothers would revolt by eating maggi whenever my Brinjal Lover mom/dad decided to treat their own taste buds and forget about their 3 sons ! This hate continued till long, then one fine day in College in Hostel in Baroda we went to a legendary Kathiawadi restaurant near Vasad called Kismet and I ate Bajra Ka Rotla and Baigan Ka Bharta and the rest as they say is history.  I am a total lover of the Brinjal now and can eat it in any form and actually quite adore the vegetable ! It is also known as the poor man’s meat ! As SRK is known as today’s Dilip Kumar okay that was a cheap one… but its my blo… you get it rite

Like SRK, Brinjal, has its hard core lovers in me and equal number of people who won’t let brinjal even touch their plates. They too like SRK share a love / hate relationship with their fans… !!!! Cool Ain’t it !

As is customary I just felt my stomach yesterday after eating some modest curd and veg-biryani (yea we do make veg biryani, the folly of being born in a Jain household) for dinner and I dreaded the feeling, the feeling of a finely made pot was what I got and I realised how far I had come from the wonderful feeling I used to get ever since I came back from my Shimla trip, back then it used to feel as if I was checking the surface of the hard, bouncy Perth pitch.

Dunno, how come so many weddings & parties & events get organised as the year heads to December ! It surely has to be a party month and well I dont say that coz I was born in this month. Yes in 5 days time I will be completing my 34th year on this planet and entering my 35th year of existence. God be kind to my family which has borne the major brunt of my antics, my mood swings, my madness, my penchant of hearing the loudest music and then telling all others to keep the volume down when they are watching TV :-/ ! Yea I know its double standards, but that happens to bosses you know and if you didnt know I am the boss of my house !!! Those who know me for long enough would remember this post !  Yes sometimes even my son wants to contest the post of being the boss of our house but he cant be as mean as me.

Anyways before I start to digress and lose the idea of why I rushed from the middle of the 1st day of my decided 30 minutes of walk-cum-jog was that most of my post ideas these days come while I am either riding or on work and they evaporate by the time I come to the laptop.Yes it was decided just yesterday that 30 mins of walk-cum-jog would be followed by exercise from now on, not that this is the first time this decision has been taken but this time I am sure to keep up with the mid life crisis I am faced with.

All my life I have been a very healthy soul, yes I eat like a PIG but still have never had serious flab or any illness thanks to being involved in some or the other sports or running. However off late I have been lazy and not been playing anything. No point touching wood coz the damage has been done. I discovered I have Gout and while I used to avoid the medicine, one attack in Shimla told me I had to keep on swallowing a xyloric a day. I did that for a week and then I stopped again. A dentist friend bruised my ego when he said the reason for the excess protein is that my body is not utilizing the protein ! In short he meant I am PHYSICALLY TOO INACTIVE !! Yea it hurt and hurt bad

Then, the other tragedy – My wife has cold almost 365 days a year and I would always mock at her having a very weak immune system, but don’t they tell you that if you be evil, evil will come on you. Since the last 25 days I could not get rid of my cold, average 50-70 sneezes a day and that led to an ulcer in the throat, eventually, I had to meet my ENT and tell him to give me optimum medicine and if possible avoid any anti-biotic. He did just that and its showing some improvement in the last two days. Atleast the sneezing has stopped thanks to the anti-allergic. It is such a relief that people on the dining table are so relieved now that I wont be sneezing with my mouth full of something ! Phew they say !

I have worked for 3 years as a Medical Representative but still I havent learn to swallow a pill on an average I need 2 pills to swallow one coz it is pretty much sure that the first tablet I take will be puked right back by my system which refuses to swallow anything unless well chewed I have very very very active teeth you see ! No dont you take out the tissues as even all this didnt stop me from my load of Samosa’s and Sev Usal and usual over eating binges and well cigarettes too ! I do from time to time go to my curd rice, fruits and green veggies to cleanse my system, but really counting calories before eating and fretting about them is really not ME ! 

Thats when I took to the walk-cum-jog ordeal and plan to make it more regular and on the first day I come after just 23 minutes with an idea to post, you see blog post ideas are so rare these days I just didnt want to let this one escape.

For me, my music is a big part of the morning walk, so yesterday night I loaded my ipod with my favourite songs to listen, yes I still am stuck to the songs of Rock-on, Wake up Sid ! They just have to be there and then I have a couple of new favourites Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Rockstar…

There is something about Rock music that appeals to me, I have always been a lover of the rebel and I guess Rock music in some way or the other is related to the rebel. There is a rebel somewhere inside me, although I haven’t quite found the way to release him !! :-/ Someday though someone is going to have it real bad…. absolutely inexplicable and something I myself cannot comprehend.

Yes its strange, I am not even sure if I know the meaning of Sadda Haq but when the electric guitar is blaring I can’t help but pay attention !!! Songs that involve a sort of Painful Screaming are an automatic favourite. I dont know how many times I have heard the song but it surely is a few hundred times now, infact the song is also my caller tune !!!

I seriously don’t understand rock music and the intricacies of it but I simply love them and love singing with them, whether it was Elvis or Bryan Adams or the Eagles they just hook me on. At times I cant even understand the song or lyrics sometimes until I hear them a few times over and yet something pulls me to them. The one wonderful thing that is happening is that Rock music is coming to India and more importantly to Bollywood I mean. Thankfully its not just a simple copy but infact its original which is so so welcome ! Both Rock-On and Rock Star are wonderful musicals and I just cant have enough of them…

Another very very favourite for me to hear Tum ho to gaata hai dil from rock on… I am obsessed to scream as long enough as Farhan does when he sings
