Whats the point ?
Reading, listening and watching to the shivering news from across the border, it is really difficult to comprehend what is going on in the minds of these idiot terrorists.
As I read on Shobha-de’s blog this is an Open Season, I would like to add a few adjectives, this is a bloody, freaking, f#$%ing OPEN SEASON and all of us are sitting ducks, these idiots come up with guns and decide to shoot any one and any body regardless of what they symbolize. They attack the socialites in Taj & Oberoi, they attack the commuters at CST station, they attack the Israeli people at Nariman Point, now the Sri Lankan Cricketers…
The most shocking thing is that none of the guys has been captured, had they been as motivated as the Mumbai terrorists, ready to die, they probably would have not allowed a single player to escape. The thought sends shivers down my spine….
The cricketers don’t symbolize any political party nor any ideology…. They are just players who play for their own enjoyment and give the watchers a lot of joy. They aren’t even Indian players who are traditional enemies of the neighbouring nation. What is clear from this is that these terrorists want more publicity, media glare and want to send a message to the whole world that Pakistan is in a state of chaos.
My first reaction to the news was selfish, thank god we didn’t tour. But when I heard that the players were actually wounded, they were shot in the chest, legs, etc. I couldn’t quite believe it actually happened. Thankfully the players are safe and none lost their lives.
The cops who lost their lives, were fathers, brothers or sons of Pakistan, however strangely enough no one is giving heed to that, everyone wants to point to Pakistan’s history, its unwillingness always to act against such groups. Politicians there have not been strict or strong, they have allowed petty groups to act, as they served for the vested interests of these politicians, now when these petty groups keep becoming bigger, stronger and more powerful they are now out of control.
Unfortunately there is no optimism that this will act as an eye opener for the authorities of our neighbouring country. However I hope that it acts as an eye opener for us, not only should we be tightening the borders. Sooner than later this is going to spill over to us, Lahore is quite near Amritsar.
Apart from tightening the security I hope our government will also be stricter on the local extremist ideologies which are still smaller, spread apart and not so big right now. We have groups who are fighting on the basis of religion, caste, state, region & languages, while it is fair to argue or debate, but when these groups resort to violence, the most strictest of punishments must be given immediately so that this is nipped in the bud and not allowed to flower. I don’t want to name the people I am talking about, but you know whom I am talking about.
