Whats the point !

Whats the point ?

Reading, listening and watching to the shivering news from across the border, it is really difficult to comprehend what is going on in the minds of these idiot terrorists.

As I read on Shobha-de’s blog this is an Open Season, I would like to add a few adjectives, this is a bloody, freaking, f#$%ing OPEN SEASON and all of us are sitting ducks, these idiots come up with guns and decide to shoot any one and any body regardless of what they symbolize. They attack the socialites in Taj & Oberoi, they attack the commuters at CST station, they attack the Israeli people at Nariman Point, now the Sri Lankan Cricketers…

The most shocking thing is that none of the guys has been captured, had they been as motivated as the Mumbai terrorists, ready to die, they probably would have not allowed a single player to escape. The thought sends shivers down my spine….

The cricketers don’t symbolize any political party nor any ideology…. They are just players who play for their own enjoyment and give the watchers a lot of joy. They aren’t even Indian players who are traditional enemies of the neighbouring nation. What is clear from this is that these terrorists want more publicity, media glare and want to send a message to the whole world that Pakistan is in a state of chaos.

My first reaction to the news was selfish, thank god we didn’t tour. But when I heard that the players were actually wounded, they were shot in the chest, legs, etc. I couldn’t quite believe it actually happened. Thankfully the players are safe and none lost their lives.

The cops who lost their lives, were fathers, brothers or sons of Pakistan, however strangely enough no one is giving heed to that, everyone wants to point to Pakistan’s history, its unwillingness always to act against such groups. Politicians there have not been strict or strong, they have allowed petty groups to act, as they served for the vested interests of these politicians, now when these petty groups keep becoming bigger, stronger and more powerful they are now out of control.

Unfortunately there is no optimism that this will act as an eye opener for the authorities of our neighbouring country. However I hope that it acts as an eye opener for us, not only should we be tightening the borders. Sooner than later this is going to spill over to us, Lahore is quite near Amritsar.

Apart from tightening the security I hope our government will also be stricter on the local extremist ideologies which are still smaller, spread apart and not so big right now. We have groups who are fighting on the basis of religion, caste, state, region & languages, while it is fair to argue or debate, but when these groups resort to violence, the most strictest of punishments must be given immediately so that this is nipped in the bud and not allowed to flower. I don’t want to name the people I am talking about, but you know whom I am talking about.

I know its a sorry state of affairs. But Pakistan officials are not much concerned I feel.It keeps happening everyday for them. I am surprised Why srilankan players toured Pak first and foremost!!

  2. Varunavi says:

It is so scaring to think that taliban will take over pakistan. What will happen to the people in particular to females/girls.It is will become one more afghanistan.
Whole world knows that it is home grown terrorist but the govt is blaming foriegn countries. It is we indians who gave them help to attack mumbai. That shuld be restricted and our borders shuld be sealed, all the trade with pakistan should be stopped and also bus shuld be stopped.

it was one of most shcokin events in d history of sports…d attack cudnt have happened without any prior trainin…infact an attack like this requires mnths of trainin…so i wonder whether they were actually trainin for d indian team…n since it was sri lankan they jus let em off…its quite horrific to imagine if they wud have actually managed to tk d players hostage

Brilliantly said Hitchwriter!! I totally agree with you, you have said everything we are all worrying about. I wanted to pick just a line or two, but can’t, every word here counts. I hope we wake up even now ….

  5. Nimmy says:

Wow dran, the final para is so strong and written brilliantly..I hope our sleepy govt wakes before Taliban rush in to our homes ..

  6. hitch writer says:

MOI : Ask Ranatunga why they toured when no one was daring… its brave to go, but to send others for money and votes !! not very brave !

VARUNAVI : its getting really spookie…

MAYZ : Thank god our players werent allowed by the government, or else trust BCCI wud have surely sent them !!!

IHM : as much as i pity for Pakistan and its citizens… I am more and more weary of them and such sprouts in our country… We have had far lesser troubles and I hope we dont follow their suit…

    NIMMY : Hope so !

  7. Rakesh says:

Yes Dhiren, I think you’re raising a very valid point. In all the relief we are feeling that we are way better than them, if the state of affairs in our country continues, it wouldn’t be long when even India is divided on the basis of castes, states, and what not.

  8. Thoorika says:

Hmmmm.. so true! we ppl may realize the meaning and importance of your words! but the so called Government wont!

  9. Indyeah says:

the last para really hit the nail on the head Dhiren!
We need to wake up and wake up fast!
this smugness of ‘we are superior’ is dangerous and if things continue like this it wont be long before we are in the same boat..

and the sheer size of India will make it impossible to control the mayhem so yes,the most important thing is as you said,” the most strictest of punishments must be given immediately so that this is nipped in the bud and not allowed to flower.”yes thats the need of the hour

  10. Solilo says:

Dhiren, In the last paragraph you have echoed what most of us concerned citizens of India hope and wish for.

We should start by making a difference.

  11. hitch writer says:

RAKESH, THOORIKA, AJIT, SOLILO : I hope we will turn a corner… i am optimistic these elections will be one where the general public actually completely participates.. and that will ensure things will turn !!

    PHOENIX : Thanks !

INDYEAH : I guess we and more importantly the politicians will have to do a lot of soul searching !! Finding faults with ourselves is the best way to improve !

  12. Usha Pisharody says:

Yes and yes again, there is much weeding to do at the grass roots too, before we take on anyone or anything outside! Well said!
