Nothing calms you like Laxman…

Thats what the team members say… but to say that I was calm, while watching the final moments of the match would be a lie… I was like a cat on a hot tin roof, muting the sound at the end of each over, a silly superstition I have, I think that way we do well… 😐

The amount of time that Laxman has while playing is phenomenal, the ease with which he batted actually was unbelievable, Sachin went and so we thought India might, but then the unsung hero stood there calmly… Dhoni ran out… and Laxman, but watched, so went Bhajji but still stood VVS !!!!!

Ishant buckled his chin and decided to take a leaf out of VVS’ book… both batted calmly, risk free and were cruising, Laxman was particularly brilliant during this time and some of the shots were so beautiful you cannot quite imagine that the guy was playing under such huge pressure, but then, Ian Gould erred… and India were surely cursing themselves for not using the UDRS.

Sport can be cruel, but for a change, the God’s smiled and Ojha who was plumb out, wasn’t given, the icing on the cake was that while Ojha was wandering out of the crease, the usually accurate Australians missed and gave away 4 and the rest as they say is history !!!!!

What amazes me is that VVS has played two back to back matchwinning Innings on the last day of a Test match. This is Australia and invariably Laxman preserves his best for them !! It was heartening to see Ishant get behind the line of the ball and gutsying it out.

Ponting will have to wait for his first victory in India, but to be fair, the Australians fought and fought very hard. Unfortunately for them they were on the wrong side.

Test Matches are not the real contest for nothing, this match just tells you that no T-20 or ODI can ever match the frenzy of the last one hour today. The scenes when Ojha ran the last two runs were unbelievable… πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

I am sure, Australia will be keen to offer VVS an Australian nationality !!! This is one Indian, I am sure they want to be on their SIDE !!!!!

Lets not debate who is the biggest match winner for India, lets just gloat over the fact that the team fought and the team won !!!! Lets not forget the bowlers who set the match up for us. Lets not forget the first innings and yes we will most remember VVS’ calm, composed innings.

Finally I can sleep with peace.. actually I just cannot help but feel all elated today, the world just looks so much better today.. ! Cant wait for the next match in Bengaluru !!!!!!!! πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

P.S. – The biggest joy of the day came, when the calmest of all, VVS, shouted at Ojha and even threatened to hit him with the BAT !!!!!!!!! The scene was the the best !!!!!

Absolutely loved the match. Nothing can beat the joy of winning a test match, that too against Australia! πŸ˜€

P.S.: Loved the way Laxman reacted! Fab πŸ˜€

The Indian domination, especially in Tests is here to stay !!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Poor aussies they always seem to earn the wrath of Laxman, who saves his best for them.. !

Yes, I agree nothing compares to the joy of winning a Test… so much suspense, day after day, a new twist, it was like an exciting novel with a gripping climax !!!!!!

      and Laxman’s reaction !!! lol… PRICELESS !!!!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Sigh… my favourite, my icon, I used to copy him, till he broke my heart… I still dont think Laxman is as stylist, but Laxman is better than Azhar, especially when it comes to playing the short stuff dished by pace bowlers … but yes, there is an artistry in these Hyderabadi’s that is almost unmatchable !

      • PNA says:

        I still heart Azhar… πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
Not in a discussion for who is better or stylish… but that guy had class πŸ˜‰

ps: SULTAN Bhai!! πŸ˜› Kya bath hai πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

    Hi Hitchy,

First time commenter, though a regular visitor to your blog..

Yes, Indeed it was a match to remember for a long long time..

Hats off for Ishant who stood ground for 92 balls, playing and grinding each delivery on the final day against an Australian attack and on a pitch of uncertain bounce stands out to me…. Ofcourse Laxman is a classic and will always be..

P.S : Trust me…The Tension in the final 2 hours ( just watching cricinfo summary in office) brought fever to me and i had to take paracetamol πŸ™‚

PPS: I wonder is it the same laxman the way he was using expletives against wandering the way UDRS was there in this test series ???

    • Sultan BHAI ! says:

Hey Rizwan glad you decided to show up πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜›

Test matches give you memories that are much more stronger than Odi’s dont they ??? Yes Hats off to Ishant, he just had a look on his face when he came in that he was not going to give up easily and was gonna fight… and fight, he did… !!! I guess its all about determination, the way he was getting behind the line of the ball just showed how much he wanted to win !!!!! While Laxman deserves all the accolades, he couldnt have done it without Ishant… even the contribution of the bowling the earlier day was as important… !!!!

no dude, India doesnt use UDRS… but I am sure it will start using soon !

Of course, VVS shouting at Ojha came as a surprise !!!!

    • Sultan BHAI ! says:

oh you didnt watch the match… you missed out on the ultimate thriller !!! the tension, the crowds gasping, the nerves jangling, every damn person around was so tense… just writing this raises my hair !!!! No T-20 and ODI can ever match with Test Cricket ever… !!!! the suspense the romance of Test Matches is something else !!!!!!

    Team ne jita,
    Team ne jita
    gin gin gin
    “unki” haar
    laxman ne layi bahaar…..
    ek do teen …. (repeat)

(lots of beech me music, whistles etc)

Ishant ko jab unhone khelwaya tha
Ishant ko jab unhone khelwaya tha
Ian Gould ne use wapas bhijwaya tha
Ojha ko mujhe bat to dikhlani padi
Aur apni to test win ho gayi badi……

    Ponting aya,
Chewing Gum Kha ke haat dilaya yaar
Dekho, dekho, laxman ne layi bahar ….

    • Sultan BHAI ! says:

dhin chak dhin chak eh !!!!

Yes, Laxman ne laayi bahar… !!! πŸ˜† Awesome… the way you mix the non cricketing things with cricket is just brilliant… !!!!

the scene when he showed Ojha the bat and said the unmentionables, I couldnt believe it was Laxman !!!!! just showed the desperation to win… !!! the steel in the man is never visible… but then thats the artise in him…. !!!!

  5. Rakesh says:

Awesome he is, ain’t he… In fact, recently, India’s wins have been more about team effort rather than individual brilliance. Just like in this match, in the first innings, it was Zaheer who raised his hand and showed the way, then there was Sehwag and Co. and then in the second innings, it was Ishant, and then finally Laxman… This is what had made Australia brilliant in the past and this is what is happening with India now… No surprise that we are still No. 1

And yes, completely agree – this is what Test cricket is all about… T20 and ODIs can take a hike.

    • Sultan BHAI ! says:

Yes, as much Laxman deserves credit, we must not forget, Ishant at no 10 !!! and most importantly routing Australia for 192 on the 4th day… !!! I think that was equally important to set the match up… !!!

I was just thinking the same, Australia just doesnt have Haydens, Gilchrists, Langers and Warnes any more… and lets be honest and you try and remember innings that Katich or Clarke or Watson have played with their backs to the wall !!???? where they turned the match from a losing position to a winning one… scratch on… I couldnt quite remember it…

Its all ok to score runs when you are batting first or winning… but when you have to chase 92 runs with two wickets, or when you are following on and you come up with a 281 !!!!! Phew…. Laxman is the man for turnarounds… I firmly have always believed India was another team before the Kolkatta test and a different team emerged after that…. I still stick to it… Indian cricket after that 281 in Eden gardens in that most most famous win has changed…

I still think, our bowling needs a little more time, but we seriously are no1 for a long time… the next challenge will be when we tour South Africa later this year… I just hope the quickies are all fit… I think this is one great chance… and icing on the cake for the ageing stars of Indian cricket… We must win in Africa… and tour Australia soon, before these stars retire !!!!

Present again. Though, I did watch the highlights and his interview on NDTV πŸ™‚ Did you see this tweet ‘Gandhiji – Hey Ram. Aussies – Hey Laxman’ πŸ˜‰

  7. kanagu says:

We won.. I didn’t thought we will be winning when Dhoni got out.. but Ishant supported VVS wonderfully.. What a match.. surely test match anyday πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  8. PNA says:

Did you read this tweet: The day Laxman retires, it will be a National Holiday in Aussieland πŸ˜‰

India has so many unsung/non-model/off the limelight heroes hain na… everybody has potential and they deliver, that’s the reason they are in the national team! But is there a complecency factor when it comes to delivering the goods at the international stage or is it tough competition…we play as a team now, receive applauds as a team now…

The match was excellent, and I saw it all the way from Day 1 πŸ™‚ glued to the set and reading reviews.. Laxman’s expressions heee, and Zaheer! It’s a pleasure to see Aussie lose esp. under Ponting… not so much under Waugh πŸ˜‰

  9. Harini says:

Its the 1st time I ever saw Laxman yell and I have been watching Cricket for long time now. I the 1st test according to me was one of the best test matches ever played. Who say that tests are boring? It just shows that if you two good teams competing then tests can be as interesting if not more than ODI’s and T20. I still love tests ofcourse only if they are between two good teams. I guess Austrlians hate laxman he has snatched the match from them so many times now.
